The Sound Track to your Life
Kestrel Gold is the digital revival of one of North Hampshire’s most iconic radio identities. Originally launched as Kestrel FM on May 18, 1998, the station became a familiar voice across Basingstoke, Alton, and the M3 corridor. It was known for its warm personality, community spirit, and the music that defined a generation.
Today, Kestrel Gold brings that legacy back to life. Broadcasting alongside Basingstoke Radio, we focus on the greatest hits of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, the soundtrack to the lives of thousands of listeners who grew up with the original station.
Our goal is simple: to honour the heritage of local radio while embracing the clarity and reach of modern digital broadcasting. We aim to reconnect listeners with the songs, stories, and voices that shaped their community.
Although the original FM frequency eventually became part of national networks, the spirit of “The Kestrel” never disappeared. Kestrel Gold exists to preserve that identity, keeping alive the warmth, nostalgia, and community focus that made the station special.
